About ČSOB Stavebná sporiteľňa, a.s.

ČSOB Stavebná sporiteľňa, a.s. is a building saving organization, which operates on the Slovakian financial market since 2000. Since its inception, the company uses operating information system CIBIS, which has been developed and is supported by Czech software company TurboConsult s.r.o.


In the recent years, ČSOB Stavebná sporiteľňa, a.s. has become a leader among other building saving organizations in Slovakia. Every year there is the significant increase of clients and building savings contracts, which is positively reflected in ČSOB´s economic results.

About SEPA

The European Payments Council initiated the creation of the Single European Payments Area (SEPA) to ensure the same rules for cashless payment transactions, direct debits and card transactions carried out in euro currency. The legislative framework for SEPA project comes out from the regulation of the European Parliament and European Council no. 260/2012.

The SEPA project brings a single payment scheme for which must be prepared all providers and users of payment services and their information systems. Into the SEPA project will be integrated all the countries of the EU, the European Economic Area and Switzerland. States of the monetary union are part of the SEPA since 1. 2. 2014, Czech Republic and other countries outside the monetary union will connect SEPA on 31. 10. 2016.

About the case study

In this project, the ČSOB´s operational information system has been adapted to be able to provide the payment services in accordance with the SEPA standards – for credit transfers and for direct debit as well. The project was launched in 2011 by analytics studies and was completed on 1st. November 2013. During the project, especialy in the phase of testing, has been neccessary to communicate hard with National Bank of Slovakia, which thus indirectly acted as another participant in this project.

The project has been realised in two phases with a separate output for each of them. In the first phase the system has been modified for SEPA credit transfers, in the seccond has been solved the whole agenda of direct debits. The output of the first phase was delivered in March 2012 and put into the service in June 2012. The basic aim of the 1st phase was to ensure the ČSOB´s system will be switchable between the various modules only by setting of the system´s parameters.

This means that after entering a request into service the system worked in the original mode (before SEPA scheme) and after running the SEPA credit transfers by National Bank of Slovakia, there was no need to make any further interventions. We managed a smooth transition to the SEPA payments scheme on 1 February 2013. The output of the second phase was delivered on 31 July 2013 and put into operation on 1 November 2013. The full launch of the SDD functionality was realized on 1 February 2014 in accordance with the terms of the NBS implementation plan.

The whole system´s adaptation for its operation within SEPA wasn’t a mere change of format payments, but among other things it was necessary: to provide new ways of processing transactions, to add the new types of transactions, to add the mandates management, to make changes in the accounting and to perform other impacts on the system.

Especially in the area of SEPA direct debits there has been a big change in the processing because the mode has been fundamentally changed. The original “Debtor-Driven Mandate Flow” (DMF) - used mainly in Western Europe (inclusive Czech Republic and Slovakia) - has been replaced by the new “Creditor-Driven Mandate Flow” (CMF).

Because ČSOB Stavebná sporiteľna obtained a significant progress in the implementation of SEPA´s solution, in the first phase it was difficult to validate new functionalities and our outputs with other financial organizations in Slovakia. As the part of the acceptance tests it was very important to synchronize our tests with the tests of the NBS and other financial organizations and provide a prompt reaction to problems, changes and requirements. This process was quite dynamic and requested very close cooperation with the customer´s representatives.

Recently ČSOB SP provides all required payments services to its clients and met the requirements of NBS in the dates laid down. Thanks to excellent cooperation between TurboConsult and ČSOB Stavebná sporiteľňa, the project has been realised successfully and according to the plan.
